We believe very strongly that nurses should be actively involved in this debate. The theme of NFL is a core ethical dilemma that is as relevant to nurses as it is doctors. Nurses share the same values as doctors and their views must be given equal weight in any debate about the health service.
Nurses are aware of the hospitality culture and the inappropriate level of contact with the pharmcaeitical industry. We want you to join us and hear your stories in the confessions section.
What we want from you.............
- A commitment to take and display the Oath
- A commitment to end our professional silence. If what you see is unacceptable then say so!
- A commitment to contact local universities and post graduate departments asking that they organize education on the industry.
- A willingness to lead this education
Goals
- We want a public debate – and make the public aware of what is going on
- We want the health professions to end their silence and acknowledge that we have a problem.
- We want Nursing schools to offer teaching about the marketing of medications.
- We want a review of the role of the APBI and a new “watchdog” that actually monitors activity of the industry
- Our Key demand ,however, is for an open, public register of all contact, hospitality and payments between NHS staff and the industry. This would be the responsibility of the Industry to maintain as they hold all this information currently anyway. If there isn’t a problem why would anyone object to such a scheme?
WE NEEED A LEAD TO SPEAK FOR US ON THE NURSING ISSUES. ANYBODY INTERESTED?
